Aerial Perspectives currently offers coordinate based mapping services that are geared toward mapping trails and other related jobs. These projects involve utilizing the GPS capabilities of modern-day drones and the free Google Earth mapping services to create precise interactive maps. Below is a detailed description of how this process works, and the testing that has gone into offering this service.
Utilizing the GPS and image capabilities of modern day drones, and the functions of Google Earth, we have the ability to create interactive maps of all types (including trail maps). Here's how it works:
Whenever our drone takes an image it also tracks the precise GPS coordinates where the image was taken. We can plot these coordinates in a project on Google Earth such that the image is displayed when the coordinate marker is clicked on.
We can embed multiple images at the same GPS coordinate. We can also embed text and URLs at each coordinate. While we can not embed a 360-degree panoramic, we can provide a link to the 360 pano for people to view in Google Photos.
Not only can you see all of the coordinates, but you can see your location overlayed on the map. This is helpful for navigation purposes.
By taking pictures throughout the trail systems, we can connect the coordinates and create trails. Each of these segments can be labeled with the trail names for navigational purposes. If someone pulls up the map while they are on a trail, they will be able to see their location along with the name of the trail they are on. By using precise GPS coordinates to create the trails on a map, we ensure that the trail map accurately depicts all the trails that are currently open for use today.
Images can be taken throughout the trails and at different altitudes (lower altitude in the trails, high altitude in more open environments, fields, parking lots, etc). Not only would this work as a navigation tool, but it would allow people to view the entire ENTIRE landscape virtually.
Provide an interactive navigation tool
Create a mapping interface that can be controlled, managed, and updated by your organization.
Documents the current condition of trail systems, etc.
Provide a virtual tour of the landscape.
Create a free, easy to use, up to date, and customizable mapping system.
Create a map using the high level GPS positioning systems in modern day drones.
Capture scenic photos of the entire landscape.
On November 27th, 2025 phase two of testing was completed at Stratham Hill Park This phase involved capturing GPS stamped images on a section of trail approximately 0.75 miles long. The images were then embedded within a Google Earth project as coordinate points. Trails were created by connecting each point marker. The total flight time for this test was approximately 30 minutes.
Overall, this test was successful. The mapping process went very smoothly, and the map that was created exceeded expectations. Please see the map overview below. Each image demonstrates a different way of viewing the map that can be easily adjusted by the user. These pictures do not display the user's location overlaid onto the map. If the user was at the map's location however, they would be able to see their current location in the below images. This was tested after this map was completed, and the location matched up perfectly with the trails.
Interactive Map with Location
Allows users to see their location overlaid onto the trail system.
Helps people navigate through trails they are unfamiliar with.
In the event of an emergency, it allows users to pinpoint their exact location along a trail for emergency responders.
Customizable
All parts of the map are customizable from the administrative side which would allow your organization to do the following:
Add descriptions to certain landmarks.
Color code trails by difficulty.
Easily create race paths by simply selecting the trails you wish to include in the race.
Mark regulations (such as dog leashes or hunting) by selecting trails or sections of the map where they apply.
Mark rescue zones/first aid stations.
Properly name and label all trails, and more.
The user interface also allows users to customize certain features.
Managed by your organization
Your organization has the ability to update the map at any time to advise the public of trail closures, hazards, new trails, discourage the use of certain trails, make changes to existing trails, and more.
This map can be utilized for many years into the future with minor yearly maintenance and upkeep. Aerial Perspectives has the ability to continue to manage the upkeep of the map after it is finished or that responsibility can be turned over to your organization.
Free and Easy to Use
Your organization will be providing users with a free service that is easy to access and use. It’s as simple as downloading the Google Earth app, turning off 3D viewing (because it's a 2D map), and opening the map.
Virtual Tour
Resource to your users: provides the ability to view the entire landscape virtually.
Allows people to view trail difficulty attempting them.
Documents the park’s current condition with a time stamp.
Can be used for project planning and land use improvement.

CUSTOMIZATION:
Almost every feature on this map can be customized to a great degree. This will allow the your organization to choose exactly what they would like the user interface to look like and how they would like it to operate. The following are examples of what can be customized (example pictures are provided below):
Size and color of point markers
Symbol on point markers
Description at each marker
Number of pictures at each point marker
Number of point markers visible
Text above point marker
Size of text
Thickness of trail line marker
Color of trail line marker
Number of 360-Pano photos
